Welcome to the Android Forums!

If the app is in the Android Market you simply click on the app and tell it to install. If the App, in the form of an .apk file, is not in the Market, you first need to instruct the phone that it's OK to install from unknown sources, and then you click on the app and say it's OK to install. To allow unknown sources, go into Settings in the App Drawer, and select Applications. You should now see a check box for unknown sources. If you check it you will see a disclaimer telling you that, basically, it's risky to install apps from unknown sources. Typically I recommend to check it, install the app, and then go back into the app and uncheck the box.
