Help Jumping into Car Mode

There's a car mode??

Sorry, not sure I can help with the question but I thought that was a stock android thing?

Mine does it occasionally when charging. I have a feeling it is a slightly dodgy charger cable. I believe car mode is initiated by a specific car charger with slightly different pin connections compared with the normal micro-usb connector

I'll second the "there's a car mode?!" statement. I mean, I sort of knew there is one, but I can't figure out how to activate it. :( The Droid has a magnet-activated switch to toggle its "desk stand" mode, but I don't think that that's the case for the Desire.

As for the "slightly dodgy" pin configuration, there's only 2+2 wires so it should either just work or not -- however, as we've seen with the iPhone chargers, there may be weird (as in: not conforming to USB spec) resistors on the data lines. That could be a case for a certain charger, but probably not for a cable.

Its doing it without a charge cable connected, with Bluetooth switched off and with no magnetic devices nearby.

It is really annoying as every telephone call then comes up as Loudspeaker by default.

Very odd, I know HTC are going to release an actual car docking station (or they may have released it already, not sure) so I assume you can't activate it unless you have one of those bits of hardware. It may be a bug in Froyo that seems to just launch the car mode without seeing the dock.

Haven't really got enough knowledge, anyone else?

My HTC Desire switched to car mode when docked in a brodit active holder.
After a couple of times the phone stayed in car mode after undocking. I disabled this mode in the taskbar notification area, and it never reappeared :-(
Maybe this will help: UiModeManager | Android Developers

out of nowhere my desire insists on going into car mode all the time, and even when disabled makes all calls go to speaker. unbelievably annoying. tried removing carhome ith titanium, it just comes back.

this is a disaster!

i never even use car mode, how can i permanently remove/disable this 'feature'!?

Starting doing this on my HTC Desire HD yesterday.

Every call i make is set to loudspeaker as default.
I have advanced task killer and i just deleted car mode as it was THAT annoying.

Hmm and now mine has started doing it too. Keeps going into car mode!
Can't think of any particular trigger that made it happen.

Could be a dodgy connection in the usb port that is forcing it into Car Mode, as I think that is how it works in the HTC Car kit even though mine is unplugged when it happens.

Has anyone experienced a Froyo Desire continually jumping into Car Mode?
i have experienced the same on ginger bread..had lot of issues..finally resolved it..follow the steps:
backup all ur data on the SD card and the phone as well.
unmount the SD
format the SD on a PC(suggest to do a quick format)
do a factory reset without inserting the SD
once the factory reset is completed reboot
now insert the SD and copy the backup
its better if u cud scan the SD with some gud antivirus..
i presume tht its a virus that causes the malfunction of the car mode.well till now i haven't got the notification of the car mode on my phone..

My HTC desire is constantly jumping in and out of carmode....which in turn messes with my messes with the use of facebook/internet and sending messages, as well as making all my calls on loud speaker :( I am really annoyed and have no idea how to fix it!!!!
Any help would be great

To resolve this car mode bug, which turns on the loud speaker at the start of each call try the following:

Go to the Locations app. Click on the map/pin under 'Current Location'. It should say 'loading'. Follow any prompts such as a request to turn on the GPS (do it if it asks). You don't need to register or buy a licence though. When there are no options left click cancel.

This fixed it for me. (I think I caused this problem by going to the Locations app and not following the instructions, so it was left running in the background in car mode).

There really should be a bug fix for this.

Peter.
