Just a quick ? about saying "Thanks"...

Ok so basically, this is a rant for all forums not specifically this one...but I've noticed in a lot of the threads I read through people asking this or how to do that or can someone do this or where can I find that...now imagine how easy it is to click the thanks button the forum developer put on posts, hell even saying thank you in the thread??? Alot easier than it was for someone to take the time to answer your question or help you out?
I see this all the time on all the forums...

So why is it that most people don't do it?? Serious question? Has it come down to just being a gimme gimme gimme world? And trust me with 6 kids in my house I understand that...but my 2 year old neice says bless you when you sneeze or thank you for whatever reason it is deserved??

So why is it that some grown ass men or women or even teenagers on these forums can't even say thanks? Lol. That thanks button is there...well atleast my view on it...so that when someone gives me advice or a suggestion I see they have been thanked umpteen times or however many times and I'm like well this person seems credible? And it may not seem like it to everyone, but to me it kind of makes you feel good that you helped someone and they took the time to thank you

Seriously people...we need to start thanking those that deserve it!!

And again this was a rant for all the forums I frequent not this one, not any specific thread, and not about me getting thanks because I dont care if I do or don't...I'm not a Dev, I'm not a Themer, I'm just a guy that visits forums and passes along info and knowledge I've recieved from people that I have thanked

Edit** And for those that say I use forum "X"s app and there isn't a thanks button but I thank later from a computer, this isnt about not getting thanked right away...just not getting thanked at all

Thanks for moving it ;) Figured it was about the phone as thats the phone I have and the only part of the forum I visit ;)
**Edit: And it was posted in the general section for the Epic ;) Didn't think it was a problem :o My bad :p**

And it was a copy and paste from XDA because that was the first forum I put it on, I also copy and pasted it on AC. Like I said in this thread I would be posting it in all of them as it's not XDA specific or AF specific, it's in all the forums.

And I also say in the thread its not about the thanks button but the common courtesy of saying thank you :p

I and others help people all the time...others more than me lol
But unless someone says thank you how do you actually know you helped them?
Again just a rant about peoples lack of courtesies and manners ;) Not about a number or button :p
And Thanks for letting those who didn't know about the thanks button in the app!
 
Unfortunately not every one feels that way. If you direct your attention to the left
<------ you will see that i have only given out a couple dozen or so.:D;) To me it is easy and i hope it makes someone feel appreciated.
The reality is though most times the person who gives advice/help is the one who really doesn't care, nor do they even realized when/if/who/how many they received a 'thanks'. When people use the 'last unread' option in a thread they most times don't ever look at their thread again.

I agree that it doesn't hurt or take any energy to do it. If someone asks for something/a question it is only polite to say thank you. Someone NOT saying it is not gonna effect how/if i help out.

lol, no worries! Also understood your point completely, just throwing that out there. ;)

Completely agree with some kind of response being helpful though. Required; no. :)

Different people were raised differently and have different thoughts and feelings on things. Personally, a post like "It worked!" is enough for me.
 
I always at look peoples profiles, and I find that the coolest people are the ones who give out more thanks than they receive. I have seen people who have literally thousands of posts and have never thanked anyone. Really? I mean come on, it's not like it costs you anything.
 
Lol. Look at my thanks given to thanks received ratio.

I tend to thank only once per thread but have received thanks on multiple posts per thread. Often I receive no pubic thanks but my pm box is flooded with thanks once a week or so.
 
Many people dont want to be bothered with the whole thank option. Ask yourself this. Do you help others looking for praise or do you help people to just help them?

I have over 200 thanks from people and in the end it don't mean squat.

Now give me my fix and hit that thanks button:p
 
Saying "thanks" is a polite thing to do if you have been helped.
However, it doesn't bother me if someone presses the ''Thanks" button or not. We are here to help each other, exchange info and have fun.
 
I personally don't care if someone pushes the thank button on my posts. My advice/help is freely given (and usually worth about that:D). I use the thank button frequently though, if someone posts something I like, if the post was helpful or informative or just to give Dark Jedi his fix ;).
 
Yea I really didn't think people cared that much about the Thanks button. If you click it, fine, if you don't, fine. What irks me more is when people ask you to thank them. That's reprehensible and in the same category as those people who ask you to donate to them. If I'm going to donate or thank someone it's going to be by my own volition.

I actually have my personal set of rules for giving thanks. In general, I save my thanks for the following conditions:

1) the knowledge someone provided is truly outstanding and rare;
2) I vehemently agree with the post (not just regular ol' agree);
3) someone offers advice/answers specifically to me or proves me wrong;
and now as a mod:
4) whenever a lurker comes out and starts posting.

As you can see, I'm not as thanks-giving as others, but that's how I choose to use the system.

Until this post....I didnt even know you could see thanks you gave out like that....lol I thought you had to dig thru your profile page.

Learned something new? Especially something I never even thought of before and makes me go ....man I didnt know that? Automatic Thanks button....sometimes....

Sometimes I feel left out and just wanna be part of the post with a million thanks already...
