so over christmas i bought the kids ipad2's 16gb wifi at 275 each it was a good deal i felt and they were both in awesome condition. THey love them but the wife started playing with the kids new toy and she really liked it. she was starting her nursing program and was in need of some sort of PDA to keep her organized. I grad a used htc OG EVO and turned it into a pda/media player using wifi to internet and whatever. SHE loves it uses it for everything work family grocery shopping... she really did get into the android thing headfirst and just loves it.

But its only a phone at the end of the day and she needs something more for work and school so i grabbed a GT 7inch sch-1800 verizon for real cheap. Clean esn i already verified and no cosmetic issues just looks real clean for under 100$ with 32gb sd card. Its in the mail and will be here shortly.

I have rooted 3 htc phones and a casio with some help here and there. I was wondering if its even worth doing on the Tab. Is there much dev support (doesn't seem so) and if so what are some good rom options on this. I don't see a lot of chatter on here about these things are gt's not in use anymore or what? New to tablets and new to GT looking for the 411 :)
Thank you in advance for your help as i'm sure i will need it to get this thing up and rooted before mothers day and w all my asked before questions regarding advice.

I think that's the tab plus that has the ir feature I might have bought it for just that if I did a lil more research :)

I'm a little confused tho. I have read it can be used as a phone through normal wireless plans and others say it can only go VoIP calls?

I also so read it take the larger sd cards but then I was watching a video on YouTube where the kid said it is a micro sd. Which is it?

According to Samsung's specs sheet for the Tab SCH-1800 it uses the CDMA 800/1900 which Verizon uses for voice and data plans but their Q & A section (sort of like FAQ but user supported) state it cannot be used as a personal cellphone. Go figure... It definitely uses the MicroSD card format and can use up to 32GB capacity cards. You can check out the rest of the specs here Specs - Verizon Tabs SCH-I800 | Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Q & A section and other interesting stuff about her device can be found on the Verizon site but I can't link to it right now. just go to verizonwireless and set your location to read up on more interesting stuff about her device.
