Help Just bought Droid-cannot set up Google Account

My Google account is me@mydomain.tld. (A GAFYD Google account.) My brand new VZW Motorola Droid with Android 2.0 will not let me complete setup with my Google account. (Searching shows that this was possible in older versions of Android and/or on different phones.)

Has anyone figured out how to do this on the Moto Droid? Thanks

It seems like other have had luck setting setting it but. Check this thread and maybe you can PM those individuals for more help.
