Root Just bought racer

Hello all :)
I just bought this device branded by dell ( in my country ). Its running on 2.1update-1 . I am a complete noob to android.
I want to know :
1. How to install themes , widgets , etc ?
2. How to root the device ?
3. What are custom roms ? how do i use them ?
4. How to do a complete reflash , in case something goes wrong while rooting ?
5. How to update this ?
6. Can i chage the default keypad ? its sort of uncomfortabe for writing

well there arnt themes just launchers install launcher pro and see what thats like.

to root just use universal androot or follow this guide http://androidforums.com/zte-racer/248005-rom-my-new-racer-rom-v2.html

that guide will show you how to install a custom rom as well

as long as you dont take the battery out when flashing a rom you wont need to reflash but the guide will show you how if not just ask on that page

havnt found a new keypad yet will have a look :-)
 
Also my phone is getting recognised as dell xcd28 , so the drivers are not being installed properly ! i want to put custom rom , but i cant seem to boot into bootloader . Any ideas ??
To everything the .bat says waiting for device and does not proceed !

To add themes/ widgets...
on the home screen press menu-add-widgets.

Also instead of the qwerty keyboard their is touchpal which is just like a phone numberpad. Not sure how to activate though. Please thank if this helps
