Just brought home my first tablet: Now what?

Yeah. Enabling unknown sources is pretty safe as long as you only install apps from trusted sources (like amazon).
Once you install amazon, dont install anything else from your browser unless youre really sure of it

Alright, thanks. Is this the right link for the Amazon App Store App?: http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?node=2350149011

There are like 50 different apps on the 1mobilemarket. Which is the official Amazon one?

Anyone?

By the way, I don't understand why people speak so negatively of this tablet. The specs are pretty damn good and if it wasn't for this Google Play issue I'd have no problems...

It may not be that it's a particularly bad device it's that getting it set up with your Google account and getting apps for it can be a challenge (as you're finding).

One of the things you'll find (or maybe not) is that some apps that are free on the Google Play Store are not free on Amazon.

Well, any app at this stage.

By the way, are there any possible problems I might run into if I only have the Amazon Appstore as my exclusive place to get apps?

I might just wipe the Android device because I installed a lot of uneccessary apps. How do I wipe it so that it's in the same state as when I first bought it?

i answered in your other thread man.
Do you mean how to disable an app so it can never start or how to temporarily stop an app from running?

Be careful with anything you might find on 1Mobile (Kunlun Wanwei Keji Gufen Youxian Gongsi), much of it is pirated and may well be harbouring malware.

Yah, this is what I'm worried about...

The apps on Amazon aren't that much more expensive right?

from homescreen.. go into android setup. find "application manager"
in there .. you can see which app can be uninstalled. some can only be stopped/disabled because they are built into your version of android from the maker.

be careful of what you uninstall or disable. they might affect other apps or functions of your device. only mess with apps YOU know about and understand.

Great, thanks!

Do you know if I press the reset button (which needs a paperclip) would wipe anything more than by me going into 'Settings' and using the Android interface to reset it?

not sure... my does not have a .. reset button.

but i am guessing.. the button.. only turns off the power and on.
like pulling the battery of a device. to get it out of a bad lockup or loop.

the software reset... i think what wipes the device and puts it back to factory.
you might want to read your device's manual.. to confirm if it also wipes your files and photos, and things you created!

I don't know if its device specific or not, but all my pics and music and downloaded apps were all there even after a factory reset. The apps werent' installed, but were still in the "downloaded" folder. I had to manually go in from the PC to remove anything I didn't want in there before I sold it!

Right, my Android tablet has a separate built in SD card that it uses for photos so I had to select 'erase SD card' in order to delete all of the photos.
