Just found Codecademy.com

Java and Javascript are unrelated, except for their similar names. They have very little in common.
Well, they have a lot more in common with each other than they have with COBOL, FORTRAN and VBscript. :)

I don't think I would agree with the idea that Javascript is a good jumping point into applications programming.
That's easy to say with 20/20 hindsight.

IME with learning programming, the use of things like pseudocode to help non-programmers learn to organize tasks into algorithms of some sort have proved to be helpful stepping stones. Since I'm not an accredited instructor, the best advice I can give is to try to emulate the coursework of those that are.

When learning to swim, it's usually more important to actually get into the water before deciding what stroke to specialize in, if you follow me.

Started learning Java script on code academy. Done around 50 activities so far. Learnt things like console log, variables and if/else... Started functions and my next task is to make a rock paper scissors game.

I think it's a pretty good site, but I'm spending more time on the site than revising for my exams!

I've just started on Code Academy now. Completed unit one of Python programming. I didn't actually realise that Python takes it's name from Monty Python, and the course materials are all full of references to spam, eggs, NI!!!, etc.. :D

I dont think there is a programming language I like less than python but im a bit stuck in my ways.

I'll third (fourth?) JavaScript. It gives you a fair amount of leeway and let's you learn programming in smaller bites.

I would encourage anyone interested in Android programming to just download the SDK from Google and start doing a tutorial though. There is nothing more fun than hitting "run" and seeing you creation appear on your phone.

Anyways, happy Santa Hat Day AF!

Does it have a function like BringOutYourDead() that's analogous to the free() function in C? ;)
