I just got my Moto Droid X yesterday. what are some things that I need to do first. What are some must have apps? What cool things should I do? What are some must do or must have for my droid?:confused::confused:

First thing you should do is sign into your google account and sync up your contacts, emails, and calendar. Then you should customize your homescreens to your liking.

Some Recommended Apps/Widgets:

Astro - This is a file explorer app. Android doesn't come with one by default. This is a must have app if you plan to copy/delete/move files on your phone.

Google Maps - you already have this installed, but google recently released a new version that is a lot better.

Launcher Pro Plus - Some people don't like the default launcher(blur). This is a replacement launcher (well it actually just sits on top of blur) that is customizable. There are other ones in market such as golauncher and adw launcher that is worth trying out.

Google Voice - If you have an account, you can set it up as your phone's voice mail and use the app to access your messages visually. You can also acquire a google voice number that you can use to make calls and send/recieve sms messages for free.

Beautiful Widgets - It's a popular clock and weather widget that is customizable

Calendar Widget - I think it's very useful to have a calendar or agenda on your homescreen to keep track of your appointments. There are a lot of them in the market. They all have there pros and cons. Try them out and see which one you like. Two popular ones are pure calendar and android agenda widget. I think Launcher Pro Plus also with a calendar widget

Alarm Clock Plus - a feature rich alarm clock. Much better than stock.

Skyfire or Dolphin Browser as a replacement for the Stock Browser

Handcent SMS for a better texting experience

**ROOT IT**
this lets you get rid of all the bloatware and install custom roms and recovery. If you go this route though, please read the rooting guide in the root section of the Droid X threads

Ya I finally cracked I rooted and over clocked my X it now runs at 1.25Ghz flawlessly I don't know where to go from there tho...im still experimenting you should look into custom ROMs ect...

This is good stuff. I would of never known about these. I am going to get started with it in the morning. Thanks and if you think of anything else please post.

Some more apps:

WidgetLocker - This is an app that replaces your default lockscreen. It is very customizable. You can add sliders and widgets to your lockscreen for easy access. I have beautiful widget setup on my lockscreen so that I have don't have to slide to unlock just to check time and weather.

Vlingo - This is a speech to text/text to speech app that enables you to use your phone hands free. The X already comes with google's voice search, but Vlingo has more features which I think makes it easier to use. For example Vlingo includes a feature call safereader that reads out incoming text messages. You can also use your voice to send txt messages or call people all without having to touch your screen. This comes in handy when you're in a car.

Tasker - read this http://tasker.dinglisch.net/. This is a very useful app once you figure it out and set it up the way you want. However, If tasker is too complex and you prefer something simpler, like an app that enable you to automatically change settings based on conditions then you can try checking out apps liek setting profiles or phoneweaver.

For sure the biggest improvement I've grown to love is using XScope browser over the stock browser......huge improvement in functional use. Also, Launcher Pro is well worth it.
