just got transformer w keyboard today

So I just got the 16gb transformer and keyboard today after waiting over 5 hours outside of bestbuy. it was a long wait but at least i saved $200

How would i go about modding it? and is there a way of "jailbreaking" it like iOS?
(getting free apps)?

also i was having a lot of trouble with docking it on the keyboard. like its really loose and sometimes when i want to undock, one side comes off easily and the other stays stuck on. any tips for that?

and does anyone know where to get cases for it? i bought one on ebay but leather isn't my favorite.

thanks

Hello and welcome to Android Forums! :)

a lot of what you can do to customize the Transformer can be done without rooting, although root can be handy. I'd recommend just giving it a workout as stock for a week or so and read up on rooting. You may determine that it isn't necessary, but if you do want to Transformer - All Things Root - Android Forums would be the place for assistance.

As for apps, most of what you will find on Android is already free (ad supported) so you don't have to go to alternate app sites just to rip-off developers, which is something we don't really condone around here anyway.

Enjoy your new tablet. :D

ok so what is rooting? what does it do?
is it difficult to do? im not very tech-savvy

thanks

Rooting is simply gaining administrative access to the file system. With Android much less of the system is locked down and much of the user interface is customizable from stock, so rooting would be necessary only if you wanted to remove some of the stock apps (not recommended) or modify the file system in a way that required it.

Read up on what rooted usres are doing to see if that's the sort of thing you want to do, too.
