Just had an Army Soldier walk me to the bathroom at Burger King

I don't see how a washroom in a private establishment would be considered public? The government does not own the bathrooms to the restaurants/fast food chains.

One of my friend says that when she needs to go to the washroom, she goes to the restaurant, walks up to the front desk person (i forget what they are called) and tells her that her friend is already there. Then goes to the bathroom, walks out telling the front desk person that her friend is not there and she'll wait for them outside.

exactly.... would anybody here think me walking into their house and demanding to use the bathroom is ok?

I worked for Wendys in a couple of various locations around my town. During the winter, I'd work "in town", during the summer, I'd work 'on the beach" We were a spring break and summer vacation party town. We also get a lot of snowbirds during the winter. During the summer, you had problems with restrooms. In town, and during the winter we wouldn't. We had different rules for different stores based on the unique issues each store had.

Now we never had locks on our doors but if you have a store in a downtown location next to a homeless area, or a high drug traffic area and they are using your bathrooms, then by all means, put a lock on the door and make them get a key from you.

at the beach, we had people crap on the floor, piss on the TP, just childish stuff people did when they were drunk. But we closed the dining room at midnight and the drive through at 2 am. We always had to make sure the dining room closer NEVER opened the door to spring breakers wanting to use the bathroom. A lot of them would open the door to try and tell them no, and they would push their way in.... so we said, under NO circumstances do you unlock the doors. If you let one person in, as you tried to let them out eventually, 5 more would be waiting at the door.

I don't know if most people are aware of this but in accordance to most states hwy rules if you want place (ad) on a highway exit signs for your restaurant/gas station you most agree allow customers and non costumers access to it the rest rooms.

I used to travel a lot up and down I95 and I85 and I only stop at places that are listed on the exit signs for that reason. They are usually cleaner and accessible.

Ownage.

Do you have a link for that by the way? Very interesting I didn't know this.

You'd have to be a pretty sick person/establishment to turn someone down that has an "emergency" bathroom break. Public or Private.

On that note, I once told an Eastern Asian clerk at an Arco mini mart, who told me the restrooms were for customers only "do you want it right here on your floor or in your restroom?"

He gave me the key.

It's called the Logo Signing and it varies per state rules, you pretty much have to look up your individual state to find out.

It's only applies for business who have logo's placed on HWY exit signs

Very true. Try using the bathroom in a bank and demand that you have the right to because it's public. There's a reason why banks don't even let you see where the bathroom is and say no, even if you're a customer.

Just because I have a restroom for my clients, doesn't mean that I shouldn't be forced by law to allow everyone to use it.

The best and really what a person should do after using the bathroom in a food establishment like McDonalds or Starbucks is to purchase something, even if its really small.

Yea but were not talking banks here,. It's fast food, college kids pissing on TP and morons shitting on the floors happens. It sucks but it is what it is, if you charge dirt prices for hydrogenated, processed food you are bound to attract all types in your establishment.

Btw, I am NOT gonna pay them just to use the can. Period.

The door on the left is the crouch bomb aiming toilet.

Often there are no separate labelled ladies and gents toilets in restaurants where I am. However the signs show clearly what each particular restoom is for.

BTW in central London, non-customers (usually tourists) wanting to use customer toilets is a problem. Many places keep them locked with a push-button lock, they will only tell genuine paying customers the combination.

Every time a restroom is used it costs the owner/operator of that facility a bit more in utility costs (water, power, etc) maintenance and supplies.

However, I think those additional costs are well offset by the good PR of a clean, friendly place, even if it is only used for a few moments to relieve oneself and wash up.

A policy (or employee in a bad mood/control freak or whatever) of denial of use to non-purchasing individials says something negative about the place. I'd not return or recommend it to others.
