Hey i'm new to the forum and I just ordered myself a hero from ebay

Just a few questions about it:

1. I've heard a lot about the hero being laggy, is this true?

2. What is a 'ROM' and what does 'Rooting' mean? Sorry for being a noob

I just got my Hero yesterday. I'm coming over from a Droid. Compared to my Droid, I haven't noticed any lagging at all with hero. It's a lot smoother. I'm glad I made the switch actually.
