Just ordered through letstalk.com

they told me it was coming on the 16th and and that they would ship on FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis...

WTF is a point of a pre-order then?
 
Just ordered through LetsTalk! Our devices should ship out by the 16th (Friday) but since overnight shipping don't count on Saturday deliveries, it will be delivered by Monday..
Definitely worth the wait for $79 and NO TAX!
 
2 questions please

1. I have an ed 450 plan with a bunch of perks including $20 recurring credits. Will ordering thru wirefly screw that up?

2. So how do we actually activate the phone it will be working right out of the box?

Your plan and credits should remain the same. After you activate, just call Sprint to confirm the $20 recurring credit. (I plan to do the same.) The Sprint CSR will usually be helpful.

Activating the phone is done either through your Sprint online account. (Look to the right and you will see, "I want to..." with a pull-down menu. Or, if that is confusing, you can call the Sprint customer service number on your bill. It really is pretty fast and painless.

Well, you definitely do not want that! If they were to activate the phone, you would not be able to use your old phone during the shipment of the new phone. Perhaps Wirefly is speaking about new lines, not upgrades?

Me thinks that hopefully Wirefly is exaggerating, or referring to new lines. (How about, "Ready for activation on upgrades"?)

"automatic" activation means is that Wirefly doesn't allow buyers to take the phone and sell it on eBay and keep their old one. This also guarantees that the line will be activated and thus renewed. Amazon, on the other hand, states that the line will be activated if the phone is not activated within 5 or so days of delivery. This is a much better way to do it.

What happens if if positively doesn't show up with the FedEx truck? You have no phone.

Not only that, but at what time does the new phone activate? In the morning and you don't get your phone until the afternoon? This really doesn't make much sense.

Update: If what I understand from that at times incomprehensible thread you sent me to is correct, the phone is activated when it is turned on once you get it. Well, this is really no different than the automatic activation you have to go through when you get your phone from any online seller. If the automatic activation does not work, (which happens often) you have to activate through customer service in any case. It really isn't a problem worth worrying about or even discussing.

These amazing prices on new lines serve as a reminder that merchants really do get substantially more reimbursement from Sprint on a new line. This is a secret that the Sprint stores, Best Buys and Radio Shacks hide when they price upgrades the same as new lines.
 
Aren't they sort of "giving" these away? Don't get me wrong, I'm getting the phone, but now it's going to feel kinda cheap. Almost like they can't sell them at $199. If you're a Microeconomics guy/girl, you'd understand why I bring this up.

i agree...it depreciates the value of the phone

letstalk changed their price to $174.99 now and sprint stores will be selling it for $199.99.....

this has been done to other phones as well like the HTC Thunderbolt....amazon had it for $99, while it is $249.99 in store

just remember that iphone users wont even know about this deal and it only affects "Perceived value"

Some people are speculating that this is because of the impending iPhone 5 w/Sprint announcement. Everyone who is an Android user knows about this phone and Sprint is really going to push people to the unlimited data availability for the iPhone. I am happy to get it cheap, they are the first to have the Galaxy II S phone come out here and are trying to gain as much market-share as they can. IMO

Phones don't quite fit into the typical economics analysis. Because American carriers provide such a large subsidy on phones, it lends support to online price-cutting. Americans are so used to "free" phones that they don't look at pricing as a determiner of quality or performance, like they do typical products.

Brick and mortar stores can't compete with these types of blow-outs where little on no profit is made. (Although, since the new-line subsidy approaches $400, these online stores are still making a profit.) It is doubtful you will see a "free" Epic 4G Touch in a brick and mortar store until end-of-life. And you will definitely not see this type of pricing for upgrades without further subsidies.

just because the iphone is coming out doesn't do anything to prices of other phones. They have never dropped prices of other phones in anticipation of a device...only because it was outdated.

Just look at verizon, even when they got the iphone4, they sold the thunderbolt for $200....both platforms and hardware will still hold their value

these are just preorder specials....always happens in anticipation of a device and usually go away after the device is out

They are probably going to profit from the iphone plans, which will probably be a special plan and cost more

sprint is having some type of strategy announcement in october sometime, which they will probably announce this

Wow, same here. My status still says that my credit is being verified by Sprint. My credit is excellent so the amount of time this is taking makes me wonder if they've taken too many orders.

I have great credit as well. I'm not a premiere gold customer just because it sounds good. I wonder if they are waiting for the 16th and then things will push at a good pace.
 
I'm hoping that they will ship on the 15th but I'm not holding my breath, lol. It's worth more than a hundred bucks in savings for me to wait until Monday.

I emailed customer care this morning about when they would be shipping, I'll post if I hear anything. I remember when I ordered the EVO from Sprint directly (business rep, premier account) they didn't send it to me until the day it was released

My husband asked for one so they gave it to him. I think it depends which representative happens to help you but sometimes they'll do it. I wish I could remember what they technically call it... you might want to google to find out.
