just rooted HTC hero

so I rooted my HTC hero yesterday using information from www.theunlockr.com. i decided to go with the super one click method, and i also installed a custom rom as well. the Hero is now fast as ever, and no more junk Sprintware. the only Sprintware left was the Navigation program.

did you guys noticed that the marketplace isn't the same anymore? i was trying to add ESPN sportscenter to it like I had on my unrooted Hero, and noticed i wasn't able to downloaded it anymore. do we not have access to all the programs anymore because our phones are rooted?

Are you on the latest market upgrade ? What date version did you flash and what ROM are you on ?

If that is the case I am going to assume you are not on a Sprint HTC hero, sounds like a Droid Eris Rom to me ?

SuperOneClick v.1.5.5
Aloysius 1.0 v2

would I be able to just download the latest Market update? thanks for any help!

Holy crap! He loaded a Verizon HTC Droid Eris ROM on his Sprint HTC Hero and it worked?

I am astounded he did not brick his handset. ASTOUNDED, I say!

Well I have never heard of it and do not know why you would use this ROM, looks like it is based on 1.5 version, I would boot into recovery and flash a new Rom, like Luiquid sense, AOSP 9.9.2, CM6 etc.. depending on what you need. This was way back in March, there are many updated Roms out since, sorry can't help you anymore than this I am not familiar with the Rom

You can try flashing the latest Gapps and see if this works, but make a Nandroid before doing so,

DonB,

I'm going to take your advice and install a new flash. Could you make sure I have the correct steps?

1. go to clockwork recovery mode
2. wipe the phone via cache and davlik (should I do a nandroid backup?)
3. install the rom AOSP 9.9.2
4. install the google apps you posted
5. reboot

would i be good to go with these steps? and finally, will I lose Sprint Navigator with this rom?

Thanks again!

Except don't do it through CWM, turn your phone off, then one off hold the Volume down button and the end key at the same time for a few seconds and that will boot you into recovery, then when prompted hit the Home key ( you should be in recovery now), then from there do a Nandroid, then once done, do a wipe data and factory reset, then do a wipe cache partition, then scroll down to cache partition, and hit format for, Boot, system data and cache, then back out, then hit advance and wipe Davlik, then back out again, then scroll down to install zip from SD card and flash AOSP 9.9.2 once done then flash the latest Gapps from Dec 13, then once done reboot and set you phone up, report back

thanks DonB! i followed your instructions to the T and everything is working fine. this ROM definitely looks a lot better than the previous one. last question...how do i get sprint navigator back on the phone?

Yes a white screen the it should say the home for recovery, should be a screen with green text, if it does not then you will need to flash CWM again to make sure you have the proper recovery.

i did what you told me by pressing the down and end button. the screen was white, and i pressed home and it goes to a black screen, but it still says clockworkmod recovery v2.5.0.1 on the top. will that work?

IMO Google Navigation works much better, but if you prefer Sprint you will have to find the Sprint APK and flash it is recovery the same way.

are you able to link contacts with facebook anymore? i was trying to mess with my contacts, and you used to be able to do that with the stock rom.

^^^ i got this figured out. the one thing i did notice is that i can't use HTC sync anymore as i used to for work. do any of you guys ever link your phone up to Microsoft Outlook? i guess, i'll just have to use Google Calendar then. i did see a software made by Compaionlink, but that's $40.
