Just rooted - kinda freaked out

Sorry for being a noob...

I just rooted my droid using the tutorial here:

Obtaining Root - Root Your Droid

I haven't done anything yet with it. I have some questions:

How do I back it up, right now, so I can restore it if I really mess it up?

What ROM do you recommend? I have the 2.1 music and gallery pseudo-installed in 2.0.1 right now. I would like a 2.1 that works.

Go to this thread:
http://androidforums.com/how-tips/3...tive-multitouch-browser-ported-milestone.html
Skip the "obtaining root" part (since youve already done it)

Download the rootingools.zip file and follow the directions below it. After that backing up is as easy as booting to recovery and clicking a few buttons.

Fyi- dont forget to move your backups to your computer or somewhere else for safe keeping.

Ok, I did that. Having issues though. DroidRootHelper isn't letting me mount my system. WHen I click it, it asks for SU access. I click allow, it hangs, then force closes.

I think I had the same problem at first. Try a reboot.

also. Do you have the superuser ninja icon. If not, you are not rooted.

OK, I got all that. I haven't put the browser on yet, but it's at least doing a backup now. I kept reading about "Nandroid backup" and had no idea. It makes more sense now! Thanks.

You're probably going to laugh at me, but I unrooted the phone. It made me nervous to have it hacked, and I don't think I want to put the time into doing all of this.

On the plus side, I didn't break it!

I couldn't get the browser to work using that walk through.

Just goto the market and search for droidroothelper it does everything for you and then you can load up custom rom's.

You need to install SP Recovery to get nandroid, then you can make a backup. Download droidroothelper from the market and it will get you going.

do I need to keep update.zip folder after rooting?

Also the DroidRootHelper.apk, can I move that into the tools folder or does it need to stay on the root of the SD Card after install?
