Root Just rooted using a Chinese executable.

Hey guys I rooted using a exe file on windows. Am I also unlocked now? Also where can I get a custom recovery?

root/unlock are separate. If you want the device unlocked and you bought the phone outright you can call your provider and they can give you the unlock codes.

as for a custom recovery here is a link to one:
---> [LOCKED BL/Jellybean support] LG Optimus L9 Recovery Installer | v1.5.0.0 27.04.13 - xda-developers

not too many ROM's available yet, only one i have tried is a CM10 nightly (android 4.3)

So its as easy as calling my provider(Metro) and asking for an unlock code? Or can I go in store as well? Also I tried uninstalling system apps I didn't want using TBP, but it didn't work. It went unresponsive. Any tips on getting rid of unwanted system apps? Also thanks for the recovery.

yeah, if you paid for the device in full they should give you the code. (just tell them that you will be travelling outside of the u.s if they ask.)

did you confirm that root worked? if so you can download es file explorer and delete apk files from /system/app folder.

Make sure you backup the device before you touch anything in there, because if you delete the wrong thing from within that folder it can make the device act unpredictably.

Root is working. Also, thanks for the tip I just want to delete those Google apps like magazines, books, music and facebook. Also I'll tell them that for sure.

By unlock they mean unlocking the boot loader, not carrier.

As for uninstalling apps, I've removed a few Google things like books but have NOT touched anything in the system/apps/bootup folder (to my knowledge) to avoid any issues as I still have a locked bootloader and last phone I had with one it was tied to a live wallpaper or something.

Oh, I used root explorer and titanium backup pro to wipe bloatware and change my system home launcher to apex, make poweramp a system app, remove stock music stuff, make es file explorer system, and a few other things.

Just need to figure a way to make my own boot animation using my phone and I'll be done until I get a new phone and unlock this bootloader

I just remember from my last phone that you couldn't remove play movies and magazines without getting morning call security error at reboot..

to my knowledge these are the ones that need to be left alone:

Google Play Books
Google Play Movies
Google Play Music
Google Play Store/Market

if there are anymore that people are aware of post them here, perhaps we can get this stickied.

You can remove play store without getting security error but you won't have a market and will have to download it from the net.. It would be foolish at any rate to remove the market without having another one in place. One can download an inverted market to replace the existing if wanted, but make sure to back up the original.

All I have of those is Google play.
All others have been removed.

I haven't touched anything that doesn't have an icon when brought up by titanium backup

Yea same here. I only deleted them off the system/apps folder leaving just Google Play. No errors since I did that. Maybe the morningcall error arises with deleting system apps or deleting other files in addition to the Google .apk's in system/apps.
