Help K-9 MSN.com Outgoing Server Settings??

Hello all..

Was helping my brother configure his MSN.com account with K-9. The incoming server works but I'm having trouble with the outgoing server settings.

The incoming server I am using is:
pop3.live.com

The outgoing serverS (more than one) that I have tried using but are all giving me problems are:

smtp.live.com
smtp.email.msn.com

I've used various outgoing authentication methods and ports and, frankly, just don't recall what combinations I've tried at this point!!

So, if anyone has been successful with their outgoing server settings, either one of the two up above or another one, please let me know the settings, authentication method (if any), ports, user name format, etc.

Do a manual setup and try port 587. If that doesn't work try port 465

Those ports sound familiar but I'll try again "fresh"

BTW, forgot to mention (duh!) the error I was receiving when trying to send mail:

530 5.7.0 must issue a STARTTLS command first

???

I'll try the suggested ports but does that error message troubleshoot the issue??

Hiya...

Trying both smtp.live.com and smtp.email.msn.com with both ports 587 and 465. The only combination that gave me something other than failure was:

smtp.live.com with port 587

But even that yielded an "Unrecoginzed Certificate" error. "Cannot safely connect to server. (SSL handshake aborted..." and a hole bunch of certificate info.

I was using SSL Security and tried "SSL - always" and "SSL - if available" with "automatic" authentication and those changes/attempts didn't work.

Any other thoughts?? I know it can be trial and error until the one mix of settings works but can't seem to find it quite yet...

Email Address : user@hotmail.com
User Name : user@hotmail.com
Password : your email password
Outgoing Mail Server : smtp.live.com
Security (Port) : SSL/TLS
Port : 587
