Help k9 mail deletion problem

I am running k9 and have been getting warning messages saying there is no space on the phone. k9 says it is using 118mb! I've deleted all trash but the storage is still being used and if I go into trash it goes and finds more mail!
It says I am running version 12053.
Can anyone help?
