K9 Mail won't open attachments

I have been using K9 mail for a few weeks now. Overall I really like it and it does basically everything I need. One issue I am having though is that it will not open attachments (specifically pdf and excel). When I open an e-mail and click open attachment it says it is downloading then says, "This document can not be opened". Does anybody have any suggestions to fix this?

Do you have a .pdf reader on the phone? Or a file explorer that supports spreadsheets? Just like on a PC, you need basic programs that will open such documents. Install Google Docs and they should open. Or FX Explorer. Or Adobe Reader. Lots of variables.

Yes, I do have those on the phone. When I first got the phone I used the standard Droid mail app and that had no problem opening the attachments. It's specifically with the K9 Mail app that I am having this issue.

I was having the same problem when I discovered this simple solution. If there is a box at the bottom of the email that says "Download complete message" then select that and wait for the email to return to the top of the page and then it should download.
