KE7 Update for O2 UK Customers

For all of us who have a SGS2 on the o2 UK network and who haven't rooted/debranded, i found the following on O2's website buried in the support section:

Samsung recently released a new upgrade for the Galaxy S II (KE7) that will not be available for O2 customers. This is because the software doesnt give any benefits to people using a Galaxy S II on the O2 network. The changes Samsung have made are only relevant to other network users.
How to upgrade: There is NO benefit for an O2 customer to have this software. We are working with Samsung to make our own improvements to the Galaxy S II's performance and once we have news on this release we will let you know, so you can take advantage of it.

Thanks for that, I was wondering if/when we were going to see an update on O2! I don't have any major problems with my SGS2 at the moment so no real need to update yet

Like many techies, I love to update. I always feel this burning need to have the very latest firmware but, if it ain't broke, don't fix it and I haven't had any problems with my SGS2 that a firmware upgrade will fix so I'm happy to wait. Now, if they were to produce a decent version of Kies for Mac (fat chance!), that would be a different matter.

When I had an iPhone, updates are almost compulsory and usually resulted in noticeable improvements. However, the most recent update before I stopped using it made the phone so slow that I could bear it no longer. That was what persuaded me at last to get an SGS2.

I think I shall give it another month or so and then start looking into 3rd party ROMs to see if they have anything interesting to offer, then I shall be able to make my own choices anyway. That's what I like about Android, I can decide rather than Steve Jobs.

Dude! I totally agree :D I haven't used Kies for Mac yet but I have downloaded it and it doesn't look fantastic, plus everyone says it is useless when you do need to use it.

I always eagerly awaited iOS updates as, like you say, they almost always made some improvement to my phone. But the real killer for my poor little 3G was iOS4, which basically made it redundant as anything other than an actual phone. Since then, I never updated the iOS again and couldn't wait til my contract was up to upgrade.

I probably keep going on about this, but the customisation aspect of Android is one of the main reasons I decided to give it a go, and I have not been disappointed yet.

A colleague received his brand new 02 branded S2 a couple of days ago, I just thought I'd check which firmware version it was running, guess what, its running KE7. So there is an O2 version of KE7 but they have decided not to make it available to existing users.
