Keep getting message "For Faster Charging Use Original Charger" I'm using the original charger!

Every time I charge my phone with the charger it came with it give me a message saying "For Faster Charging Use Original Charger." I am using the charger that came with the phone in the box when I bought it at the Verizon store. Any ideas?
 
Samsung mod their chargers outputs (data pins) for fast charging.
Dirt or damp fluff in the phone's or cable's connector could fake electically resistances and bother the phone's detecting the mod on the charger.
Using a cable without or broken data wires also could have the same effect.

I use the same charger but I use a USB that is longer than the white original. I don't get any messages. Does the "wire" matter?

The phone needs to "see" the charger's modified data pins ... so the two data wires in the cable have to be intact.
Your longer cable has intact data wires, so you see that the lenght of your cable doesn't matter :)

BTW, long cables could be a problem if their power wires have small gauges. Then their electrically resistance let drop the voltage level on the phone's port. The phone may not properly charge with 4V level instead of 5V ;)

I frequently use a non-OEM charger/cable (older microUSB charger - third party), and I've never seen that message - charging doesn't seem to be noticeably slower either. The third party charger claims to be a 1A charger
 
The Samsung charger is super fast in my experience.

The cable will have an effect for two reasons. Harry2 is correct about the data wires being necessary but I disagree about the length. The longer and thinner the cable the higher the resistance and therefore the lower the current.

Well ... sorry for causing a misunderstanding :)
I said the same in another way ... dropping voltage level on the phone connector imply lowering amperage.

I regularly use other chargers and have never seen this message. The galaxy charger is fast but that's because it has an output of 2A which is pretty high for a charger, most are around 1A.

I'm not sure I believe this is an optimised lead for charging though. I don't understand what this process is that is mentioned, that Samsung have employed that is any different to any other lead. It is just connecting a negative and positive terminal.

This said, yes impedance does have some impact but any half decent lead will be absolutely fine and any performance increase will be negligible if it's a standard length charging cable.

Samsung's modifications for fast charging are only applied on the charger, the data pins of the charger's USB output ... and yes, the Samsung charger has enough power.
The Samsung cable isn't modified, it has the four power and data wires like a standard microUSB cable. And its power wires have the right gauge (low resistance in relation to the cable lenght ;) ) to ensure a proper amperage flow while charging.

BTW, some generic chargers have applied part of Samsung's modification ... jumpered data pins on their USB outputs. And some phone manufacturer's chargers have it too ... HTC charger's have it I know for sure.

But Samsung's charger additionally set a voltage level of 1.2V on the jumpered data pins.
This could explain different charging times:
Without jumpered data pins -> trickle charging (with an amperage up to 500mA).
With jumpered data pins -> fast charging.
With Samsung's mod -> faster charging (for Samsung devices).

The Galaxy S6 I have now is a replacement for my S6 that broke :( but Im still using the charger and cable that came with the original phone. The "connect original charger" message comes up now and the fast charge doesnt work anymore. How is the charger programmed to the phone? Can it be reprogrammed if i take it to my provider? The fast charge spoiled me and i need answers! Thanks :)

Fast charging
The device has a built-in fast charging feature. You can use this feature to charge the battery
more quickly while the device or its screen is turned off.
About Fast charging
• Fast charging uses battery charging technology that charges the battery faster by
increasing the charging power. The device supports Samsung’s Adaptive fast charging
feature and Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0.
• To use Fast charging on your device, connect it to a battery charger that supports
Adaptive fast charging or Quick Charge 2.0.
Increasing the charging speed
To increase the charging speed, turn the device or its screen off when you charge the battery.
• While charging the battery when the device is turned off, the icon appears on the
screen.
• You cannot use the fast charging feature when the screen is turned on. Turn off the
screen to increase the charging speed.
• You can check the remaining charge time on the screen. The actual remaining time
may vary depending on the charging conditions.
• You cannot use the built-in fast charging feature when you charge the battery
using a standard battery charger.
• If the device heats up or the ambient air temperature rises, the charging speed may

I have several wall charger units. Huawei, Nokia and Samsung. Charge amperage varies between 500mA - 750 - 800 - 1.0 and up to 2.0A. The White Samsung unit is 2.0A and charges the S4 in under 2 hours. The others take anything up to 5 hours to fully charge the battery. It does pay to use the correct type along with the USB charge cable supplied as OEM.
I also have 3 Wireless charging units that work quite well but do develop quite a bit more heat than the wall chargers. Wireless trickles in and is more suitable for keeping the battery topped up in an office scenario. Neil.
 
My Moto Ez3 gives the exact same error. i am using everything that came with it. Sure tirrd of seeing that error. Also cleaned the USB port, nothing in it. Any other ideas? Thanks !
 
Hi Linda hobart, You're asking a question about a Motorola phone in the Samsung S4 Forum. A quick check on Reviews on Motorola Ez3 phones shows many complaints about battery problems and charging. These problems appear to be with phone design and battery life. Advice shown in this Forum may or may not be anywhere applicable to another brand of phone.:eek::thinking:
