Help Keeps asking for data transfer

GS29

Lurker
Hello,

My android phone keeps popping up with a message saying data space is at 75% tap to transfer data to SD card, then when I do that it comes up with no SD card found. I don't want to buy a new SD card or anything for the sake of 25% and have tried moving all apps I can, have cleared cache and data where I can and deleted an app to try resolve this but it keeps coming up with the same message, still at 75%. Is there any way around this or at least a way to stop the message coming up? I am constantly having to clear the message but it just comes back minutes later.

Thank you for any advice.

What phone and what OS version? I ask because I've never seen such a message and certainly use more that 75% of the space, so assuming it's a system message and not some stupid app it's one that's been added by the manufacturer rather than being part of the base Android OS.

What form does the message take: an actual pop-up or something in the notification area? If there is a copy of it in the notification area, long press on that and use the context menu that comes up to find out what app is producing it.

And finally, how much internal space do you have (total/free)? "25%" doesn't mean anything special, but the device does need to keep some internal storage free as working space (usually around 200MB but sometimes a bit more - depends how it is set up. With early devices it was usually 10%).

Thank you for your reply. It is a sony xperia T with android version 4.3. The message is on the notification bar and it does appear to be a system message as when I did as you suggested it said it came from the memory. From there it did allow me to turn off notifications so I thankfully no longer have to deal with the message every 2 mins. For internal memory it has 10.85GB total space and 2.80GB available. If I look at device memory it says 1.2GB used, 769MB free.

Yes, it doesn't sound like you are dangerously low yet. Though out of curiosity, what is "device memory"? Is that /system (ROM) or /data (apps and app data)? On modern phones /sdcard (media+files) and /data share the same space, but as that's quite an old model it might have the old style partitioning where these were separate. Either way it's not critical yet, but if the 1.2GB user/769MB free is your app space my guess is that you'll start getting serious complaints if that gets close to 200MB free.
