Help Kenwood DNX 6160 and the Evo 3D using Bluetooth

Lurker
So, I was told that the 3D will/doe shave the next gen. of blutooth technology in it, i guess it's more geared toward transmitting data and not just voice.
I ask them at the Sprint store and got blank faces.
My car stereo (kenwood dnx 6160) is capable of displaying text messages and sending them (on screen keyboard). I have not been able to do it in the past because the phones I gave had would not transmit text messages via blutooth.

anyone know how i wold active the blutooth to send text messages?
Or know anything about this new "next gen" blutooth, or does non really exists?
thanks

make sure you have Message access enabled in the bluetooth settings. It works on my portable GPS, but not on my mygig radio in my jeep srt

Texting built into car stereos? How does that jive with w82txt? :confused:

Settings, Wireless & networks, Bluetooth settings, Advanced Settings, Message access.

Are you talking some of the state laws? I linked the one for my state of Illinois.
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts/fulltext.asp?Name=096-0130

I copied the breakdown below. Basically, no use of an electronic transmission/receiving device in such cases at all, except hands-free. So, if the radio reads the text to you, that okay. Also, as we can do verbal commands, including sending a text without ever using the keyboard, that counts as hands free as well since you literally don't have to take your eyes off the road.

Mind you, I still think it is a bit distracting composing a text even pure voice as you drive down a road at 70+ miles an hour, but maybe thats just me :)

The Illinois Text Messaging Ban

The new Illinois text messaging law goes into effect on January 1st, 2010. According to the new law:
"A person may not operate a motor vehicle on a roadway while using an electronic communication device to compose, send, or read an electronic message"
And goes on to define an "electronic message" as;
""Electronic message" includes, but is not limited to electronic mail, a text message, an instant message, or a command or request to access an Internet site."
There are exceptions however including emergencies, public safety officials and the following;
"A driver using an electronic communication device in hands-free or voice-activated mode"
Fines for the new offense begin at $75
