Help Kernel using 30% of battery

I'm using Badass Battery Monitor and when I look at the application usage the highest one using my battery is something called a "Kernel", which is using 30%. What is this? How can it be stopped? My phone isn't rooted btw.

Its a general bug facing a lot of android phones and must be fixed with an OTA. When we get ICS hopefully then we will have a newer kernel ;)

If you click on "kernel", it will open a list of several system processes that are running. Usually "suspend" is at the top of that list. As biggiesmall said, it appears to be an issue with the kernel itself and no solution other than to update it to ICS. Hold tight with the rest of us. :(

Thank you guys for notifying me with what was going on with my phone. When I clicked on "kernel" on the top of the list is suspend :( C'mon ICS we need you!

The best thing to do right now is if your rooted is to use the kickass kernelizer script with the v6 supercharger but suspend bug is still there but the phone handles the memory better. Cpuspy will show you if your cpu actually sleeps when off screen
