People here seem to be having the same issue.

From that thread:

Hi!

There is actually a way to change the keyboard layout. But you need to be root to make it permanent.

You have all the possible keylayouts at /system/usr/keychars/ .
To see the one that is actually enabled do on a terminal :

getprop hw.nvec.keycharactermap

mine returned 1A15 (french one)
To set the one you want look at the code on the /system/usr/keychars/ and set it using:
setprop hw.nvec.keycharactermap 1A01

(I put the 1 before because that's how it came, I'm not sure if it's needed).
If I remember correctly A01 I'ts the english one. But you can try all of them until you find the one you want . However the layout doesn't change immediately, you have to type a bit until it changes.

You will have to do that every time you reboot. But if you want to make it permanent, edit -as root- the /system/build.prop and add the following line:

hw.nvec.keycharactermap=1A01

Note : I was writing from memory, my commands may not be completely accurate.

after a LOT of frustration with this issue I've finally found a very easy solution! It turns out that russian programers had the same issues and made a little program that makes all the changes for you:
search for "Multiplay IME" with your Opera browser of your ac100, click on the link from trashbox
click on "Скачать Multiplay IME 1.0"
once installed, go to Settings - Language
deselect "Use Android Keyboard"
Select "Use Multiplay IME"
then go to Multiplay IME settings and select default keyboard AND enabled keyboard of the language of your choice
and there you go, magic!

PS There's another more complcated way by flashing your ROM and installing a Honeycomb port if you do the proper searches on the web, however I find there are too many bugs on the port, so I prefer to stick to the 2.2 version that was specifically built for the ac100 :)
