Help Keyboard disappeared at password entry

Hi there,

On my phone, I have it so that you have to enter a password to gain access to the phone. However, while I was in the process of installing a new keyboard, my phone locked itself, so when I unlocked it and tried to enter my new password, there is no keyboard there to enter my password in with! What should I do, as as it stands I have no access to my phone whatsoever!

Many thanks,

I would try the reboot too. Also, holding down the menu button is a universal command to open up the keyboard on any screen, so you might want to try that.

Welcome to the forums.

Have you tried a simple reboot? Turn off, battery out, battery in, then turn on?

What keyboard was it?

I was changing it from normal Swift Key to the Swift Key X trial. And if I do the whole battery in then out, will all my text messages etc. not be erased as well?

Not at all, it's just ensuring the phone is properly turned off and reset.

You might want to try Xyro's suggestion about holding the menu button down first though.

Yep, when I hold the menu button nothing comes up, and I have just removed the battery then replaced it, still the same problem!!! any advice??

There was a similar issue here. The last posts mentions loading into Safe Mode to resolve the issue. I've googled and seen numerous methods for accessing safe mode, you can try holding the menu "button" down whilst turning on and the phone is booting Alternatively, you can press and hold the volume down key as soon as you see the first white HTC screen. Keep the volume key held down until you're taken into the OS.

You could try safe mode, then uninstalling the new keyboard.

Further googling suggests accessing safe mode is a combination of both of the above:

safe mode:
Press power key then press and hold the menu key
1. Press " power key " for power on device
2. Wait until "HTC logo" appears on screen
3. Press and hold " Volume down key " until entering OS
4. " Safe Mode " text will appears on the lower left of screen.

I've tried both those ways and all it does is speed up the whole process, it never lets me get past the lock page! How else can I get into safe mode?

Also, now, for some reason, whenever I turn the phone on, it doesn't show me the normal HTC logo, it just flashes white then takes me to the lock page? What does that mean?

Ok, you're probably going to need to do a factory reset then.

Can you just try rebooting one more time. Turn the handset off, battery out, battery in again. Turn on.

If you tried all of the above and it didn't help, you can buy an OTG cable from online and plug in a regular keyboard into your phone and that will let you type your password

Thanks guys...i ended up giving it to my IT friend to look at it today. Just started learning about tech stuff, i dont know much. But i did try all the above except the OTG cable.

I have galaxy j5 2015, suddenly el mobile turned off then restart after that when i swap to unlock there's no keyboard (pin) to enter it so i cant open the phone
