Keyboard minimizing problem on tablet

Hello all...
I was experimenting with different keyboards for my Galaxy Tab II yesterday and the upshot of it was it left me with a problem that my keyboard now minimizes automatically without any regard for it being used. Thus I might be in the middle of a sentence in a chat and the keyboard disappears. You hit the input area and the keyboard reappears for a limited time only. I can't seem to find a setting for this....any help would be appreciated!
