Help Keypad on lock screen disappeared

Hi

Newby to forum. I have a Samsung Tab 2 10.1 wifi only on which I have lock screen enabled with a numerical pass code. When I turn on the tab the screen appears but without a keypad to enter a code. If I tap the flashing cursor, the standard qwerty keyboard appears but if I input the numerical code using this keyboard it tells me the number is incorrect when I know definitely it is the correct number. I have one attempt left before auto factory reset. I had a similar situation with my Galaxy S2 where the correct numerical keypad would appear but it would not accept the code as being correct. Again, I new it was definitely correct. This went to factory reset. Any constructive advice would be appreciated.
