Help Kies firmware upgrade problem

I've been told by Kies that a new firmware is available for my GT-I9100P on Orange.

After downloading the firmware update it fails and gives the message "Failed to run firmware upgrade. Unknown error occurred."

Does anybody have a solution to this problem?

I've tried reset the phone, reinstalling Kies and multiple combinations of connecting things!

Any ideas?

Is your phone rooted?

No, it's as standard from Orange.

Kies, tells me there is a firmware update but it fails after the downloading of the update.

You can either take your phone to a Samsung Service Point and explain your problem and ask them to update it for you or your can manually flash your firmware yourself, using Odin and the instructions in #1.7 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide.

This is the stock Samsung Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2, firmware for the Orange UK, P variant...

I can't seem to get Odin to recognise the phone, the box doesn't go yellow.

Why can't this be done through Kies?

How do I completely remove kies off my computer so odin can read it ?

Do not remove the Samsung drivers as Odin need those.
