Kies not connecting to S2

I recently had to flash my S2 via Odin as it was in a boot loop.
Phone is now up and working but Kies does not see it.

Is Kies the only way to update my firmware?


The problem with kies is that it keeps saying connecting.
On the phone it comes up with the USB symbol and MTP application in the top right hand corner, but it does not go into the KIES connected black screen mode.

I have removed Kies and re-installed it and USB debugging has been turned off as per instruction on this forum.

When I connect the phone Window explorer comes and I can browse the phone contents and it stays open.

When i play a video or view a picture on the phone while it is connected to the PC the USB symbol appears on the main portion of the screen on the phone and it says "synchronising for a moment then disappears.

Kies and Odin do not like each other so if flashed via Odin Kies does not like or recognise your phone.

You can update your firmware via Odin main benefits are that you get it quicker than your carrier will supply it and non of the bloatware. I dont use Kies anymore Windows works just fine
