Help kies photo question

I need to do a factory reset on my phone and have a number of photos I need for work. When connecting to Kies, all my photos show up as they should. My question is, do I need to upload these to something prior to my reset in order to keep them? Is Kies only seeing what is currently on my phone or if i do the factory reset, will the photos still be there?
 
also to add, if I insert a sd card, is it possible to move the pics from internal storage to the sd?
 
I'd just plug my phone into my PC, browse to the folder I want to back up, then copy and paste it onto my desktop.
 
tried that, my phone is showing up to my computer as a camera, however when i click on the phone (camera) there is nothing in the file
