Hi all:

I know this has been done to death, but I am going to ask some questions about using kies to update to 2.3. 4

1) First of all, how do you update firmwire anyway? I know that I can check for updates using: settings>about phone>software update> check for update. Can I actually update through OTA?

2) What is suppose to happen when you use kies to update?
will there be an automatic message when you connect indicating that you need to update?

3) In kies, i have the august 24 2011 version, under tools, and under firmware update settings there is a box that says download automatically. Does this mean it should update automatically or only that it will download new firmware automatically?

4) How does do updating process work? I bought an unbranded, unlocked chinese version from the states but I am living in canada. does that mean I'll get the update it comes canada? because it looks like the china updates are out but I get swat from kies.

5) I have noticed a few people complain that their chinese version does not have google /app market access. However, mine came with the market, gmail and calendar syncing abilities so i am confused as hell.

1)firmware can be updated through KIES or you can manually update via ODIN where you can choose your firmware. Its not that hard, lots of threads on it.

2)when connecting via KIES (with cable, not KIES AIR) the main page will show your current firmware and if there is a newer version. well....mine does anyway, if you dont it might be because mine is with vodafail and there could be software implemented into it.

3)dont confuse yourself. DOWNLOADING and INSTALLING are two different things. its just if you want to auto download it. If it did install it, it would still prompt you to backup etc...and go through the steps.

4) not sure about this one, i was under the impression the language you choose in the KIES settings will be the firmware downloaded.remember they dont cmoe out via kies every week or anything, if you really want to upgrade it, root it or go through odin (doesnt require root)...other wise you just have to wait.

5)lol dont get cut about about things you have that others dont. as long as you can access the market you will be fine. even then there are other markets to vist e.g. - appbrain.
