Kies?

Hi, I just switched over from an iPhone 4 and I really like the phone. However I'm running into a problem/question and I can't find the answer.

Is there any desktop software for sync'ing? I've read about something called Kies, but I can't find it anywhere on the Samsung website. I plugged my Infuse into my computer and it tried to find the hardware, but said that the correct hardware couldn't be found.

Can some point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Greetings and Welcome to the Forum.

I'm composing this from my Android phone and away from my laptop so I don't have the link, but will offer some help searching.

Samsung is a huge company as I'm sure you know, they have several web sites. Do a Google search for "Samsung Android Phones". Then with those results, look for a URL that contains "Samsung". It will most likely be a few entries from the top. Don't worry about the word Kies, since you'll see it once you find Samsung's smartphone download section. Drill down and you will find Kies.

Along the way watch for drivers for your computer, those are the first to be installed. Its very important they're loaded first.

Next install Kies. It has a variety of uses that will be obvious once it's launched.

For simple dragging and dropping of files from computer to phone, only the drivers are needed since the Android OS has its own file system. Its as easy as using windows explorer.

I've also got an iPhone 4, and yet it hardly sees any use, Android is so much more useful, fun, and flexible in all that it's capable of.

The key is to do some browsing on this forum and the web, learn how Android works and you'll be amazed.

This is a friendly forum, we're here to help.

Cheers :)

Thanks for the info, it was driving me nuts (granted that's a short drive, but still...).

Thanks to you and others on the Phandroid forums I found two interesting pieces of info.

Number One, the Kies software doesn't work for the U.S. That's the reason I couldn't find it on the Samsung site. When I registered, I did it for my address here in Idaho. So the only software it would let me find was the operating manual.

Number two, your phone doesn't have to connect to Kies in order to root the phone. The software simply needs to be installed on your pc. I kept getting the 'Waiting for device' error. I was at my wits end so I figured I would take the chance and I installed Kies from a link that someone gave me that was intended for India. It was great because it was the English language version (I don't speak Hindi) so i just installed it and the phone rooted without a hitch after that.

In any case, thanks again. I'm sure I'll bother you with more questions in the (not too distant) future.
