I'm pretty sure you can change the sound that occurs when you receive texts. On my phone it's known as "Notification Ringtone". Check in your settings.

Ringtones are added to text messaging on the Droid X through the text messaging app itself. Go into the app, hit the menu button, go to options, and scroll down.
