Kit Kat 4.4 has removed app permission controls?

One of the best features of Android 4.3 was the introduction of App Ops. Which allowed you to control the individual permissions of an app. You had to use third-party apps to do this. But it gave me peace of mind to know I could turn off some aspects of the permissions an app was asking for.

Just heard that 4.4 has dropped this. Can anyone verify or disprove this?

It was very odd when they released App Ops inside of stock 4.3. They didn't highlight it or talk about it. And they didn't give you access to it (hence the need for a third party app).

Maybe those were the tea leaves trying to tell us that this wasn't long for the future?

Couldn't tell you....they're leaving us all in the dark until some magical date when they decide non Nexus 5 users can have it.

The sources are out there ;) One intrepid group already has 4.4 builds on the Manta. I just don't have that skill (yet) to get it working w/o the original sources.
