Kit Kat Update

I hear that the Kit Kat update will be coming in late January or early February. What can we expect from this update. I have not found very much info on it.
 
Thank you Thom. I was thinking that since it was more of a General question about Android updates it was appropriate for a general discussion.
 
what is the big deal about 4.4? i am pretty happy with 4.3
so.. what can we look forward to with Kit Kat.

i hear it is a smaller footprint in memory.. better for older phones..

Thanks for the info. I looked through the expected updates and there is not much that I care about. I don't download music on my phones and I never, never ever, ever post where I am through any social media outlets because it is an open invitation to thieves that manage to hack into your accounts and find out where you are. They then could go to your house and rob you blind.
 
So is this pushed out now or not? For T-Mobile. Wondering when I need to unroot my phone in order to download it.

I'm just letting you guys know, its up to you if you update. It's started in Poland, the Changelog is there for you to decide either way, if you want to keep an eye on where and what carriers its going to be released for just follow sammobile on twitter.

I will update. I just won't use some of the apps. I will however wait till I get the notification because I refuse to use something like twitter.
 
Finally update to Official Android 4.4.2 KitKat ROM. This is Poland edition. ;) ;) ;)

Cauntion:
  • Phone Bootloader Update must tick at PC Odin3 v3.09, without updating the bootloader, the phone won't success boot to recovery for completing the flashing.
  • Not suitable to try out if you plan on virgin after root without tripping the KNOX as since MJ7 bootloader will trip the KNOX once root.
  • Samsung did some change on S View chipset detection, now only original Samsung S View Flipcover is working. Counterfeit or even the Spigen SlimArmor View no longer working. The only solution now is replace third party case S View chipset with original Samsung one.
Overall Impression:
  • Smooth! It is far better than Android 4.3, I am dirty flash. :D
  • System occupied lesser RAM now, the availability now is 2.71GB :D
  • I love the new lockscreen. :D
  • New lockscreen music playback is cool also, just the cover art a bit blur due to big expand.
  • Finally Samsung remove the ugly Green color battery icon.
  • Facebook lastly integrate inside My Magazine.
  • Music playback and camera quality seems much better.

Excellent! I'm surprised that it's noticeably smoother than 4.3 -- did you enable the new ART runtime?

Yup, the S View chipset detection is not welcome.

No way to enable ART as Samsung disable it or didn't include it.

LG also disable ART in KitKat ROM. Hope in future after ART final, manufacturer will include back.

So your camera is set to auto, is there a night mode also or no change?

I feel for the guys with the Slim armor view case, I was thinking of getting one of these along side my S View case but if what you say is true then there's going to be alot of annoyed customers.
 
How is the battery life so far?

It seems with updates that the battery life takes a hit. On the Note 2 the upgrade to 4.3 dropped my battery life about 10%.

That smart stabilisation is a night mode but I didn't on it when taken above photo.

For Mode selection, it is same as previous and no specific night mode.
 
Issue on 4.4.2 KitKat ROM

  • Flashing kitkat now will make the external SD almost useless. You will not be able write in certain process, example moving/copying data via third party explorer, multiple photos select for deletion at QuickPic, backup using Titanium Backup. No issue save camera photos on it or play games store in SD card. This only can be fix if you root your phone and change platform.xml and once root it is confirm 100% trip the Knox. Solution for fixing this issue [FIX][LEAKED 4.4]External Sdcard Mount Perms fix - xda-developers
  • KitKat ROM is detecting S View Cover Chipset, only Genuine Samsung S View Flipcover will working now. All counterfeit or any branded casing including Spigen SlimArmor View will stop the S View function once update to KitKat ROM.
  • There will be no downgrading back to 4.3 roms anymore after update to 4.4 KitKat ROM.
  • Don't play play mess with Bootloader, already got few user phone completely DEAD (cannot on or detect by PC) once mess with Bootloader.
