KitKat Nightmares

Ever since I updated, last Monday 3-24, I have encountered numerous problems.

1. The phone locks up 2-3 times each day. Once was during the night, so no alarm the next morning.

2. The screen does not come on when an incoming call comes in for a few seconds, and today it locked up during a call and I could not answer.

3. Voice mails go directly to "Saved" message box. If I am in an area where I cant get a signal and miss a call, I am not notified of a new VM.

4. My T-Mobile usage screen has not updated since 3-24.

5. I lost my Google GPS app. Had to install another Google GPS app.

Has anyone else encountered these problems or am I just lucky? :dong:

Welcome to the forums! :D

Have you tried a factory reset? Thats always my go-to after problems with an OTA.

Sometimes the cache partitions can get a little wonky during the update process, and the reset will clear those out.

I had a few issues after the OTA to 4.4.2 as well and a factory reset resolved them. So, this is good advice.

I've had several Android phones and tablets and every update I've gotten has ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS been better after a factory reset. It's a pain to get things back completely the way you like them, but its worth it for overall performance and to make sure you are allowing your new OS to optimize completely with all the nooks and crannies of your device.

I look at it this way: They develop the new OS on the basis of a 'clean' phone, not one that has been used and has cache, and 'crumbs' in the corners of the rooms, so to speak. You want to paint a room? you clean the walls first, right? to take advantage of the new paint and make sure the old crud doesn't show through.

That's an excellent way to put it. :)

I agree, and it's amazing to me there aren't more problems than there could be... Unfortunately, they don't tell people an FDR is required (or strongly recommended)... You might get lucky not performing a FDR post-update, but I know better after having phones updated OTA a number of times.

I look at it as an opportunity to clean house, and winnow down the junk that amasses over time anyway. This has the benefit of improving device responsiveness and resources for subsequent amassing of new junk. :D

Therefore it might be said, this is an opportunity to loop: exercising both good and bad device maintenance over and over again.

:) Thanks Gang! I reset my unit Wednesday and so far no more troubles. Only bad thing is I know I lost some information in the process. Seems like a drastic maneuver to go through to make an "update" work. At least my problems are over. Thank you all so much.:wavey:
