It seems that every time a new OS version is launched, things change and it takes days to unravel all the changes. Does anyone know of a setting that will ask me if i want to download the new version? I know that can be done with apps, but what about the OS.

The default behaviour on my Nexus 4 is to prompt you to say that the O/S update is available but to not actually install it until you hit the button. I held out about 10 days before installing 4.3 because of various rumoured problems (none of which affected me once I did install).

It doesn't sound like that's really going to be an issue for us Razr Maxx owners. I think we've seen our last update already! :(

The reason I ask this question is when JB was updated, it happen overnight, as I woke up and there it was.

The way it works ...

Verizon checks out a new version and when they are happy it is pushed out to all phones in waves. Some people will get it sooner than others.

When it is pushed onto your phone you are given the option to install it. You can decline. It will ask you again in a while. You can decline. (If you are root-ed there is stuff you have to do before applying the update to permit it to actually work.)

Some people find that annoying. The only way to stop it that I have seen requires you to root your phone and rename the install file.

The reason they do it is that they want to reduce the number of versions of software currently deployed by driving everyone onto the newest version.

Thom--I understand why Verizon (my carrier) wants to keep everyone current, but like i said, i just woke up one morning and JB was pushed overnight. i did not get an option. i just want a couple weeks to read reviews to know what changed. BTW, i am NOT rooted.

You are not alone. Many people would like that option. It is not available.

The only thing you can do is repeatedly tell it that you don't want to do the install. If the install package is deleted from your phone another copy will get pushed to your phone to take its place.

It appeared that the RAZR MAXX was out of luck for KitKat but it appears now that the MAXX may well get it. Has anyone seen solid information on this item? Based on what I've read, a number of useful items seem to be improved to death, so I'm not "hair on fire" for this update.

Yeah we have seen our last update which was 4.1.2 the big brother to our phone the Razr Maxx HD is getting the update but we won't see another update which stinks.

I am happy not to get KitKat as it always takes time to figure out what was changed and my phone works great the way it is.
