Kobe Bryant out for 6-9 months

MoodyBlues

Compassion is cool!
After playing his heart out during this injury-laden season, Kobe Bryant is now out for the next 6-9 months with a torn Achilles tendon. :( The injury happened during last night's win over Golden State. With two games to go in the regular season, and hanging on by a hair over Utah for the 8th playoff spot, the chances for doing ANYTHING in the postseason are pretty much gone now.

Get well soon, Kobe. This is most definitely not how your super-human career should end.

Something about Kobe makes him not likeable to me. Some want to think he may be a better player then Jordan but I doubt it.

I'm not a huge fan of Kobe either but you can't deny his hunger and work ethic. I think that's the biggest reason why he's one of the all-time best.

He may not be the biggest, strongest, or most skilled, but he'll keep putting in 120% out there when everyone else is only able to give 100%.

Hopefully he'll be able to come back from this injury and still play at a somewhat high level. It'll be tough but if there is anyone in the NBA right now who you could bet on doing it, it would be him.

i'm a huge laker fan and kobe supporter. this guys is such a competitor and i think he has even more drive than jordan. i mean he carried this team on his back for most of this season. after 17yrs in the league he can play 48 mins and still look fresh for the next game. nothing was keeping this guy off of the court......i mean injuries to fingers, knees and such did not slow him down. and the ability to change his game to maximize what his teams needs is crazy. he can play facilitator to scorer, he can post up or shoot the long ball. what can he not do? we all are witnessing a very great talent, future hall famer, and if anything jordan's equal.

it has been a crazy season for us lakers fans. i mean just plain weird, bizarre, and odd. i can't remember ever a year in sports where one team as gone thru what the lakers are going thru this year.

anyways i too want to express a best wishes to kobe and i hope to see him soon next year......knowing him instead of 6-9 months it will be 4 months.....LOL

Very well said. Kobe's dedication, drive, and resilience are remarkable.

Prior to the start of the season, I felt very optimistic that we'd be celebrating #17 in June. I don't think anyone could have foreseen the injuries, the coaching changes, the death of Dr Buss...and then, of course, the premature end of Kobe's season.

The doctor who performed the surgery is quite optimistic that Kobe will be able to return, at a high level. But even for Kobe, I don't know that 4 months is realistic! I can actually see him missing some of next season.

Lakers fans what kind of chance do you give your team given that they've still qualified for the playoffs?

A core of D12, Pau and Nash ain't nothing to scoff at. Any chance that they figure out a way to play together to make a deep run?

I just can't believe Nash's play has dropped off that much. I'm sure a part of it is due to his injuries and learning a new system... but having seen him perform at such a high level over the past years, maybe he can figure it out and lead his team since Kobe the alpha-dog is out.

a deep run? ummmmm no i doubt it. most likely we will play okc in the first round, and they are so much faster then we are. i would say that we might have a slim chance of beating them in 7 games, but our defense sucks. i think d12, pau, and nash will be fine, it is the rest of the cast that i'm more worried about.
  • can blake contribute like he just did against san antonio? for a deep run he will need to sustain that productivity, if we are going to do anything in the playoffs.
  • can meta help provide some defense on his hobbled knees? he came back a bit too early, but we will need him.
  • can meeks, darius morris, jamison, clark and the rest of the bench step up?
there are just so many questions to this team this year. without Kobe(who is the greatest basketball player that i have seen.....and yes i will put him above jordan and magic), i just do not know the answer to all the questions. guys will need to step up their level of play......it should be a fun run, hopefully it is a long one at that.

and yes i think if anybody can comeback early from a freakish injury like that, it would be Kobe.

Little to none. :(

Realistically...no.

I think the last few games of the regular season, after Kobe's injury, the team was playing on pride and with a "let's do this for the Gipper" attitude. And they won. Against good teams. And with Nash still out. So we know they CAN do it, but can it last? I don't think so. I see them falling apart pretty quickly once the playoffs start. I just don't think they can sustain the "yes we can do this even though Kobe's out!" attitude. But I guess time will tell.

Me too.

Now we know it's actually San Antonio. Better, but still not good.

our defense sucks.
You can thank Antoni for that. :)

I like your analysis. I think that Metta can be counted on to step up his game, and Pau has made very clear that he is a great, versatile player (can you say two triple-doubles in three games?). Jamison has also come through lately. And what can I say about Blake? All things considered, he's doing a great job.
