Kurio 7 issue - mirrored display

dd_Z

Lurker
Greetings,
I purchased a barely used (plastic still on the screen) Kurio 7 running 4.0 about 2 months ago :) When I first got it, I used it from a couple of hours to see if it was acceptable for my kid. I also followed the steps to 'root' the device to allow me to download and run the Google Play widget ;) I continued to use the device for another 24 hours, deciding to keep it & before boxing it back up to present to my kid for his birthday.
I took it out a couple days ago to test, no problems. It did connect to our Wi-Fi and install an update during that time
I gave it to my kid in working order. Saw him navigating, playing and have no problems. Five minutes later the screen mirrored! :(
I have factory reset and searched the web for solutions to no avail. It did resume a normal display for maybe 30 seconds last night when I plugged it in to charge
Anyone want to enlighten me...?

Hello DD welcome to Android Forums. We should be able to help you and give you advice.

This is a cheapo tablet, and sometimes odd and funky issues can happen with them due to poor quality. Seems a few people had exactly the same problem with different but still cheapo Android devices.
Screen has reversed display

"I had a cell phone that this happened to also, when I called for support they told me it was not repairable and they exchanged it for another one, ok it was not a tablet but it was still an Android device, apparently this is something that happens often and is a hardware problem."

It's more than likely defective. Nothing you can do about it apart from RMA, and returning it for a refund or replacement under warranty.

Is it just me or did Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich corner the market on Chinese cheapies? No wonder Google gave up on it so soon after it was launched..

Pretty much so. Although starting to see an increasing number of cheapo 4.1 Jelly Bean tablets and phones now. Which can be just as crappy as the 4.0 ICS ones. There's still a few Froyo and Gingerbread ones doing the rounds as well, but these are probably old stock or something really cheapo. Never saw many 3.0 Honeycomb tablets at all. Seems most of the Chinese makers went straight from GB to ICS, and skipped it completely.

No wonder Google gave up on it so soon after it was launched..

I've got couple of ICS phones, including a KIRF Galaxy Note 2, and so far they've been OK. The Ampe A76 ICS tablet on the other hand, now that is basically garbage.
