If you are using gmail contacts like most of us, and hate Outlook, as well as other PIMs that require install, look at using Kurlo.
Kurlo (at www.kurlo.com ) is a free, portable contacts manager, that has some cool features.
What I used to do is update my contacts on my gmail account, and then export the contacts as a local excel (.csv) file for backup. But if I was offline it was hard to view the contacts on my PC.
I downloaded / set up Kurlo (you can do it on a USB stick), and imported my .csv file from Gmail contacts. Now I can view all my contacts details on my PC in a viewable / editable format, should I be offline or gmail be down for any reason.
Check it out, I think you'll like some of the features. I like that it pops up reminders for birthdays / anniversaries, etc. Very cool!
