Root lag on stock ics

My spectrum is stock v8 ics and has a lot of lag. Trying to talk myself into rooting and ROMing. Will this help the lag I'm having when I open/close apps? Will it help my desperately slow bootup time?

It should. Cyanogenmod and AOKP are both really smooth. There are also a couple of custom kernels that you can try out that will help it be faster also.
 
Thanx ort. I want to root and flash but I'm not sure which one I should start with. This will only be my second time rooting and first time flashing ROM (my first root was before bootloader was unlocked and I went back to stock to avoid random reboots and LG bootloop/softbrick)

Any advice on which ROM to start with?

Like trigger said start with AOKP42 or CM10.1 Both are good and about the same performance wise. I have found that neither of them boot that fast though. The fastest booting rom I've used on this phone was CM9 and AOKP40.
 
Man I keep wanting to flash cm10.1 and aokp42 and see how good they are and they are decent but I get reboots and on ICS it just seems so much smoother than JB how are you guys able to get cm10.1 and aokp42 to run so smoothly I just keep going back to my icy fusion ROM because it feels smoother to me

I know I would gone for your ROM a while ago if bluetooth worked... you have icy fusion tweaked and rockin.

I haven't run your rom (but once way back when you first started making it and it only took me a few minutes to flash back to AOKP40 because I just couldn't stand the stock theming) so I can't compare AOKP42 or CM10.1 to it. It may run amazing but honestly AOKP42 runs very smooth to me. Maybe one day if I don't have anything to do I'll check your rom out since I haven't tried it in a very long time.
