Android Question

I have a Galaxy Nexus that has always been pretty fast. I am using only about 8 G of the 32 G memory. I recently installed a cleaner app to try and keep my phone clean of unwanted files etc. It immediately began running painfully slow, a lot of apps wouldn't even open. I uninstalled the app, but I am still experiencing a great amount of lag. Especially when trying to turn the screen on and text. I am not sure what else to do besides a hard reset, which i am trying to avoid. Any ideas??

Was the cleaner app one tht uninstalled apps? It might have uninstalled something critical to the phone's operation. You might need to have the ROM reflashed to fix that. (There's no way to tell what actually happened without looking at the phone.)

If it was an app that just closed supposedly-unused apps, that's one of the worst ideas ever to pop up in the computing industry. Someone who didn't understand the difference between Windows and Android thought that one up. That wouldn't have any permanent effect, though. Just turn the phone off, wait a few seconds and turn it back on and anything an app like that did is gone.

You might be having other problems (not enough free storage doesn't appear to be one of them), but there's not enough information here to even make a wild guess.
