Help Lags and such...

I did a search on lagging/lagfixes here in SGS forum and not much came up describing what the "lag" is exactly.

So I'd like to hear what it is we are fixing with the lagfix?

I've had various delays with my SGS Eclair, but thought they were normal.

I'll describe one now:
Pic of white sd card and blue circle at top left corner, then disappears after about a minute.

Sometimes my screen turns black and none of the buttons do anything.
After a while things come back to life slowly.

On a related topic.
I get messages on startup about my SD card not being inserted.
I have deliberately removed it as I thought it would speed up the scanning and such of the phone, plus I don't really need the extra space at this time. Why would I still be getting that notice now?

It's caused by the file system (RFT IIRC) used by the phone.
I think it causes slow searching for files and opening of app.
The lag fixes as I understand it change it to a different file type.
There is information about this around here somewhere, search all the lag fix threads, I know it's there cos I read it.

Thanks TDM.
I don't experience slow file searching or opening of apps.

The only slowness I experience on my SGS is when I turn on the phone after it has been shut down and when the system goes through its checks at startup, checking the SD cards for integrity etc.
I thought the above was normal for all machines, but if it can be sped up I'd like to know how.
