landscape keyboard obscuring view

when you open up the keyboard in landscape mode, it completely covers the screen
usually that's no big deal, but it makes using gtalk (or any other im for that matter) dreadfully cumbersome as you can't see what the other person is saying while you type

anyone know of a workaround for this?

juz get a wider android u'll hv no prob with landscape kb
guess there wont be any work around to slim down it unless u try using 3rd party ones (which not sure if slim landscape kb exist)

Even on the Droid X the landscape keyboard takes up a great deal of screen real estate. You can install better keyboard 8, it allows you to change the key height separately in portrait and landscape.

except it's not the keyboard per se that obscures the view; it's the textbox you write in, which sizes up to fill the rest of the screen when focused on
