Large icons

Probably the best action would be to use launcher Pro Plus combined with widgets and desktop visualizer.
1) You then decide which screen you want to put the icon on.
2) press and hold on the screen (the add to homescreen menu appears)
3) choose widgets (choose widget menu appears)
4) Scroll to desktop visualizer (you then choose the size you want)
** the saved space will now appear on the screen
5) tap the saved space (desktop visualizer opens up)
6) tap select the icon (this will be for the icon you want there)
*** It will either be an image "you" want or the regular application icon)
7) tap select action then choose launch application
** for example if I want bluetooth I choose a bluetooth image then choose launch application bluetooth
8) leave or change or clear the label name depending on if you need to see it.
9) click OK
*** the icon is now on the screen and tapping it will launch the application.
10) To resize you tap and hold the icon for about 3 seconds. A box with a dog-ear will appear. Hold down on the dog-ear drag it out and you can resize it.

You can use the free launcher pro.
The plus version just has more features.

Using this method you can enlarge the widgets on the screen not the widgets in the "widget app folder"
