Last Name/First Name Display Order Bug?

On my Galaxy S I have set the Contacts to display Last Name First Name. However, some names are showing it the other way round. But if I go to edit such a name, without actually changing the data, for example adding a space to the last name and then erasing the space, and clicking Save, the contact will then display correctly.

Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

I've also noticed similar behavior on my Droid X.. didn't think to try the add/delete space thing though (I was guessing it was probably related to my gmail contacts settings online)

The only time I've seen that happen is if I inadvertently entered both first and last name in the same field.
