Right firstly i am a complete noob when it comes to android phones!

I wanted to know whether the combination i am using is actually going to work: -

I am on Official 2.3.5 KI8 firmware
With Siyah 1.8 kernel flashed

will i get the ful benefits out of siayh using it on normal firmware or....

would i be better to use something like Revolution ROM + siyah together....

Sorry again to be a pain, but this stuff confuses the hell outta me!

It depends on what you consider "full benefits"
For most, just sticking with the current official firmware is enough.
Obviously you want something a little more as you have rooted, but official KI8 seems to be getting good comments.
If you prefer a more pleasing UI experience then you will probably want to go to a custom rom in order to install themes (eg JKay)
A custom rom on the kernel your on will give you BLN if required, and also allow you to use setCPU (but you can also use this on stock) if your a uv/oc freak that wants to get the absolute most out of performance and battery.
Personally, I dont care much for performace (ie graphics) as I dont play games, so as long as my touchwiz/go launcher is snappy, and video playback is good then i'm happy. I'm more of a battery freak personally.
So if you want to get the most out of battery, then you could stay as you are.
if you want more UI/graphics, then you would need to go down the custom rom road

i use titanium pro and turn off the services that are safe to turn off thanks to a post by someone listing those services, i have brightness down low, sync is only on for gmail.. ive sent 5 txts, done about 15 mins of web browsing and i was down 2 90% in 2 hours

i also left my phone on my work desk from 10am - 11 am with setcpu profile set as 500/200 when screen is off and it dropped from 90% to 86%
i think thats strange..... richie gets 1% drain overnight .....

any ideas ? as im ready to smash my phone and jump off the roof at work lol

what widgets are active on your homescreens? are they polling for information?
what is your wifi sleep policy?
look at your battery stats screen and look for wakelocks. if they basically match your screen on times then your ok, but if your getting spurious wakelocks then check your widgets. if nothing obvious, then download betterbatterystats to find the culprit(s)

I would say your culprit is your gmail trying to sync often.
I set mine to once a day, but its up to you.

to look at your wifi sleep policy, go into menu>settings>wireless+networks>wifi settings>menu>advanced>wifi sleep policy. Set it to "never when plugged in"
