Latitude on Desire

I want to use Latitude on my HTC Desire so that my wife can see where I am on our home computer.

I do not wish to share with any one else so I need to restrict the privacy to just our home computer; both devices in UK.

Is there a step by step guide that explains what happens; videos are not really for me.

For instance I looked at a video:-

Privacy settings : Privacy - Google Mobile Help

which showed privacy settings but cannot see how to get to these on my Desire?

What does she do on the home computer and what do I do on my Desire to allow her to track me?

Any advice please?

Thank you

But I open Maps press Menu and have the option Join Latitude not just Latitude. I press Join Latitude. The menu remains as Maps i.e. there is no privacy option?

If I go via the Apps Icon Latitude I am sent down the same route.

Any further advice please?

Sorry but when I press Join Latitude I still get the normal Maps Menu i.e. no Latitude button only Join Latitude?

Its almost as if I am not joining Latitude so don't get its menu?

When you say login with gmail account do you mean specifically with Latitude?

I have a gmail account and use it to synch with my Google Calendar and when using the Market.

I've just tried Latitude for the first time. I joined latitude, manually set my position on the map then pressed the menu button. I tapped on the latitude button and a list of contacts appeared, you can select anyone from the list and have an invitation email sent to them.

I don't disbelieve any of you so I must be doing something wrong not to get Latitude working.

Yesterday I created a cycle route on my PC using My Maps. Today I drove to the start of the cycle route turned on my Desire enabled mobile and GPS. Then in Maps I downloaded my cycle route and then watched the Desire as it tracked me as I cycled the route; so GPS and upload/download mobile is working as would be gmail as it is the source of My Maps to my Desire.

I also pressed Menu > Join Latitude but nothing happened; no contacts came up, ok could have been none in the area, but the Menu never changed to the Latitude menu with its privacy options?

I have just got home so tried a power off then reboot.

Guess what, when I pressed the Latitude icon Maps opened up and the "Joining Latitude" dialog started; reports no one near. But at least I have Latitude working on my Desire; I hope!

On iGoogle I can see my phone at my home location.

Thank you for your advice.

I suppose the advice I should listen to is if it does not work then reboot first!!
