On both Launcher Pro and ADW (haven't tested it, but I think it works), you can drag an app on the homescreen to the "trash", and holding it there for a little extra time will quickly uninstall the application.
Oh it works alright - I use it literally every day. Seriously, such an insanely useful feature. He needs to point it out more often - I bet a lot of people don't know about it.
